Thursday Podcast (Episode 6): The Prisoner's Dilemma in the Face of Electoral Authoritarianism?
The results of the October 31, 2020 election have raised the issue of the current state and future of democracy in Georgia. The unanimous non-recognition of the election results by the opposition is based on the injustice and falsification of this election. There has also been an argument that the Georgian Dream and its leader have taken a decisive step from a defective democracy to electoral authoritarianism, a regime where elections lose their power and legitimacy and become a farce. With this argument, we practically return to the situation before the 2003 "Rose Revolution". The author of this argument, a politician and professor at Ilia State University Zurab Tchiaberashvili, was interviewed by Davit Zedelashvili (Gnomon Wise researcher, professor of the University of Georgia) in the Thursday Podcast.
