New Coronavirus - Economics, Law and Politics
The policy paper prepared by Gnomon Wise Research Institute presents an analysis of socio-political, economic, and legal problems that arose during the fight against the new coronavirus, and possible ways to overcome these challenges. The document assesses effectiveness of government response to the virus in the seven countries (China, Italy, Sweden, Taiwan, Germany, South Korea and Japan). A considerable part of this paper is devoted to the transparency of information during an epidemic and the importance of critical perception of modern scientific works. Particular emphasis is placed on legal and economic issues. It has been shown that declaring a state of emergency and other decisions taken by the Government of Georgia, with possible shortcomings, could create a gross violation of human rights. Negative impact of these actions will not only reduce the economy, but also affect the lives of those who, directly or indirectly, will be victims of economic restrictions imposed by the government. Our policy paper provides with the recommendations that will supposedly reduce the negative consequences of the fight against the new coronavirus.
